Signal is a messaging app that generally has high regard for privacy currently due to its encryption and company policy (which basically makes sure if anyone catches the message between senders, it’s very difficult to be able to read if even possible). It is a free app. There are a few things you should know about and how best to use it.
First, Signal enhances privacy between users. It does not protect you if a user is acting in bad faith, nor does it help you if someone’s phone gets accessed, say by law enforcement or in court. Always treat group chats as public chat rooms.
Second, it’s generally recommended to not use your real name on signal. You can, but it adds more security if you have a nickname.

EXTRA- There’s a feature where some can use a (tag) in individual chats to describe who they might be such as organizations they are part of, or other things that might be useful like offline status. You can find this feature by clicking the chat at the top, and scrolling until you see “add member label”. This is can be different per chat group.
